Why “Hasanah”

A hasanah (حسنة) is a good deed, and Allah has promised to multiply it: “Whoever comes with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof” (al-An‘am 6:160). We hope every recitation heard, page read and ayah memorised with the help of this site is a hasanah for the one who does it.

The site was called QuranMecca (quranmecca.com) until it grew into more than the live broadcast. Every old link still takes you to the same page here.

What you can do here

Sources and independence

The primary broadcast is the Aloula Quran channel from the Saudi Broadcasting Authority. Hasanah is an independent project, with no affiliation or endorsement from the broadcaster or Masjid al-Haram.

The reader uses Uthmani Arabic text and Sahih International English translation from Al Quran Cloud. Duas use complete verses from the same dataset. The dhikr sequence cites its hadith reference. Sources and calculation notes document the editions, providers, and limits of each feature.

How verse tracking works

Speech recognition compares the broadcast with Quran verses. A detected match updates the live reader. The audio player and reader share a timing adjustment to help the highlighted verse follow the recitation.

Recognition can miss a passage or select an incorrect ayah. Silence, announcements, or a lost connection may leave the last verse on screen. The video may have a different delay from the audio player. Playback and synchronization help explains the available controls.

Browser storage and connected services

Your theme, reader settings, saved reading place, and dhikr counts are stored in your browser. Clearing site data removes them. They do not sync between devices.

Device location is requested only when you select Use my location. The prayer-time calculator sends the chosen coordinates and date to AlAdhan through this website. The Qibla calculation runs in your browser.

The live app sends usage events, such as playback actions and settings changes, to the project’s analytics service. When configured, the site also loads Google Analytics. Broadcast playback connects to the stream provider.
